Cottbus is an Olympic base for many kinds of sports including gymnastics, light athletics, boxing and cycle racing. Internationally well-known sports figures come from Cottbus.

High points are the Tournament of Masters one of only five world-wide grand prixs tournaments and the International Lausitzer Light Athletics Meet showcasing the world´s elite in light athletics.

FC Energy is in the professional German soccer league. The broad support of our soccer players by the many fans is the best proof for a sport-oriented city.

For active recreational sport enthusiasts there are
51 sports fields, 50 sport halls, 20 tennis courts, an 18-hole golf course, 1 riding field, 70 skittle and bowling alleys, 3 firing ranges, 2 indoor swimming pools, 1 outdoor swimming pool, 4 swimming lakes, 1 boat house.

Spreewald, the rustic main attraction of the region, extends beyond Cottbus.
