Culture and History

The famous arts and traditions of Prince Pueckler´s cosmopolitan city are well known here in Cottbus where the rich cultural heritage is ever-present today at Branitz Manor and Landscape Gardens.

The green city on the Spree River not only energizes art but actively promotes it as well. Opera, ballet, theater, philharmonic orchestra and the impressive Jugendstil State Theater together with Brandenburg art collections, many museums, and technical monuments all call Cottbus

their home while demonstrating the meaning of life in the capital of the Neiderlausitz.

Cottbus is even similar toVenice, Cannes and Locarno with its Eastern European film festival!

Tolerance has tradition

Integration and tolerance between groups of people is a part of daily life in Cottbus which is also the "capital" of the Sorbian minority in Germany. Cottbus has developed into an international city in the heart of Europe, which continues with the EU expansion to the east.

People from other countries are considered an integral part of Cottbus including over 1,000 foreign students at the BTU and University of Applied Science. They work, study and live here and they enrich our culture and the development of our city.

Cottbus actively maintains nine partnerships in Europe.
